Kino watches the lives of the people it meets and refuses to interfere in the way the world works. Kino moves enough between locations to have multiple combat and survival skills that protect them while traveling. While embroiled in her adventures, Kino shows a willingness to attack anyone who prevents her from exploring every single country.

Kraft Lawrence of Spice and Wolf lives as a traveling merchant who moves between cities to master his craft. During a routine stop he meets the wolf deity Holo, who persuades him to let her accompany him on his travels. After his encounter, Kraft travels north to bring Holo back to her homeland. After Nozomi’s friend Masami, who leads one of these gangs, is seriously injured, Nozomi decides to take Masami’s responsibility for protecting the region from neighboring territories. Nozomi travels around Japan to perform the duties others demand of her position.
On her motorcycle, Nozomi forms a group of girls who help her resolve political disputes and find magical jewels that give their wearers considerable power. Although Nozomi unexpectedly accepts the job, she goes on trips with devotion.
