Domestic tourism on Kangaroo Island will continue to recover thanks to $ 2.375 million from the federal government.

According to its chairman Pierre Gregor, four important pillars will support the revitalization project of the Kangaroo Island Tourism Alliance (KITA).

Visitor packages and experiences will be seen advertised in domestic tourism markets across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

A second will help tourism companies and industries build capacity to accommodate more interstate visitors.

The third aims to use marketing to encourage local visitors to come to the island during quiet times and analyze current and emerging interstate tourism markets to attract them to the region.

The final part is the silos in Kingscote, which are covered with huge murals to attract more tourists and encourage them to shop at the nearby retail stores.

Gregor said the KITA had worked hard to develop the initiatives and was very interested in their implementation.

“Although there has been a recovery in visitor numbers, the money will continue to be used to promote Kangaroo Island in domestic markets,” he said. “It is a considerable amount of money and we will try to make the best use of it.

“AI is heavily reliant on tourism … this ensures that it is anchored in the minds of Australians as a travel destination.”

He said the project will be carried out over the next 12 months and will include continued industry commitment to ensure their ideas are heard and their effectiveness measured.

“The money provided will play a key role in the recovery of Kangaroo Island tourism by fueling year-round demand, improving business ability and capacity, and specifically targeting the interstate market to fill the void created by international ones Travel restrictions will be left, “said Gregor.

“KI is an amazing near-natural tourism destination with a strong pull on the international and domestic market. Unfortunately, it was badly hit by the big bush fires and COVID-19, resulting in the loss of the international market, which is about a third of our traditional visit.

South Africa Senator Andrew McLachlan said the Recovery for Regional Tourism Program grant would support local tourism jobs and businesses by encouraging visitors to the island’s unique attractions.

“Kangaroo Island remains a jewel in the crown of South Australian tourism and this investment will help attract more visitors and support local jobs and businesses,” said Senator McLachlan.

“This funding boost is a win for the local economy at a time when the region’s tourism sector is turning the corner in its recovery following the bushfires and pandemic.”

An industry briefing and networking session held on Wednesday June 30th was meant to explain the program in more detail.

The purpose of the meeting, held at the Ozone Hotel, was to inform interested parties how to work with new programs.
