New Delhi, February 19 (IANS): Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) and the Delhi Government’s Tourism Department opened the annual garden tourism festival at the Garden of Five Senses near Saket in South Delhi on Friday.

This annual flower show, which used to end within a week, has been extended to three weeks this year.

The festival is celebrated with a new theme – “Colors of Nature” – with the aim of creating awareness for the environment and showcasing the rich flower growing of the state capital.

“This year, the Delhi Tourism organizing committee decided to extend the festival to three weeks in order to provide safe opportunities for visitors,” said an organizing committee member.

For the past three decades, the festival has been the largest flower show event in the state capital, with horticultural and floriculture departments from several government and non-governmental organizations participating.

Government agencies such as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the North Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), the Northern Railways and many more agencies would attend the event .

Another organizing committee member said, “The festival will showcase a variety of plants and flowers ranging from dahlias, hanging baskets, deciduous plants, cacti, succulents, bonsai plants of various species, bougainvillea, flower animals and tray garden to vegetable flowered earthen vases and much more, including cultural events. “

The festival remains open to the general public on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Delhi Tourism would provide e-rickshaws and other transportation to take visitors from Saket Metro Station to the Garden of the Five Senses.
