NFL Free Agency: 5 goals for Bears WR Allen Robinson originally published on NBC Sports Washington
In a loaded free agent wide receiver class, the Chicago Bears“Allen Robinson is perhaps the most talented of the group.
Robinson has played for Chicago two seasons in a row despite the Bears being unable to find a franchise quarterback. Robinson, now a free agent again, could be looking for his third NFL team.
The 2021 off-season marks the second time Robinson has reached a freelance agency in his career when the former Penn State star signed a two-year deal with the Bears in 2019 when he first hit the open market.
Here are five possible landing spots for the one-time pro bowler.
Robinson’s current relationship with the bears is interesting and murky.
At the start of the 2020 season it was Robinson Reportedly dissatisfied with Chicago due to the fact that the franchise had not offered him a contract extension. The Wideout played off the entire campaign in the final year of its deal. Neither side has discussed a contract extension for months.
However, if the bears ultimately want to keep Robinson (which they absolutely should), they can do so through Franchise Day. If Robinson signs, the Wideout would raise approximately $ 16.4 million on the tender. via OverTheCap.
With the franchise tag in your back pocket, Chicago remains the front runner when it comes to keeping Robinson. Still, ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington speculates Robinson may not be ready to play under the day next season, in a situation that would make a bleak situation even bleaker.
But with Chicago’s leverage based on tag alone, you can’t count the bears in the Robinson raffle.
A year ago Washington offered Amari Cooper a nine-figure deal to leave Dallas for the nation’s capital. Of course, Cooper stayed in Dallas – and a year later Washington still has a great need for that position.
The story goes on
Outside Terry McLaurinWashington has no legitimate wide-angle receiver options that scare enemy defenses. What McLaurin did in two seasons is incredible. But, as Richard Sherman saidThe only way Washington’s offense can make the leap to the next level is to get help.
With Robinson signing, Washington would have another real WR1. Robinson is one of the best broadband receivers in the league and has produced similarly to McLaurin with below average QB play. The uncertainty in the quarterback position could affect Robinson elsewhere, but otherwise Burgundy and Gold go well together.
Earlier this month, NBC Sports Washington’s Ryan Homler explained why this would be Robinson such a good fit in Scott Turner’s offense. With plenty of space for the cap, Washington should also be in the bear star mix when it becomes available.
The Ravens are one of the best teams in the NFL – if not the best – when it comes to playing football. This might not seduce a free agent like Robinson, who expects double-digit targets every week.
Robinson is way better than any receiver Lamar Jackson has ever thrown. While the Ravens could be a run-first team, an addition like Robinson could really improve Baltimore’s passing game and add another element to an already productive attack.
If Baltimore added Robinson, aspiring passport catcher Marquise Brown would only benefit from it in her third year. The former Oklahoma star had been forced into the role of receiver # 1 since arriving in what seemed like too much of a burden in his first two seasons.
Raven’s head coach John Harbaugh said earlier this off-season that he I’m not going to ask to come to Baltimore. If Robinson hits the open market, the longtime head coach may want to reconsider.
The Colts have taken one of the biggest moves of the off-season to date, trading two draft picks to acquire former Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and his gigantic contract. Wentz had his best NFL success when current Colts coach Frank Reich was his offensive coordinator, which Indianapolis is betting on by taking over the signal caller.
After a franchise change, the Colts must surround Wentz with guns. Long-time recipient TY Hilton is a free agent who makes his future with the Colts in doubt. Michael Pittman Jr. showed lightning bolts as a rookie last season, but he alone probably won’t shoulder the burden of being a No. 1 wideout.
The Colts have one of the deepest ranks in the league and are just a few key pieces away from being a Super Bowl contender. With the addition of Robinson, that team could easily pose the greatest threat to the Chiefs and the Bills in the conference.
Kansas City Chiefs
This could be a long shot here as the Chiefs have already long-termed several key players – Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones – in jail.
The addition of Allen Robinson to arguably the league’s best offense shouldn’t be ruled out, however. Current Chiefs Wide Receivers Sammy Watkins and Demarcus Robinson are freelance agents, which means there is no guarantee they will be back either.
Cap Space might make it difficult for Kansas City to add Robinson, but the teams have shown that they managed to get it working under similar circumstances. Don’t be quick to rule out this match.
