Spencer Rattler leaves the Oklahoma soccer program through the transfer portal.

In the Disastrous Episodes of Bedlam, former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler has announced he is leaving the program after three seasons at Norman.

Rattler was a five-star Phoenix recruit in the 2019 class. He endorsed Jalen Hurts as a true freshman before starting quarterback for the Sooners a year ago. Despite winning the Big 12 last season, Rattler eventually lost his starting job to another five-star star from Caleb Williams high school. Now that his head coach Lincoln Riley moves to USC, Rattler is also out.

Here is Rattler’s heartfelt message to Sooner Nation after a busy year at OU.

What if Spencer Rattler follows Lincoln Riley to USC? It’s a silly time of year

No, it’s not that likely, but a change of scenery will do Rattler well, even if he follows the same head coach who benched him at USC. Rattler grew up in Pac-12 land and would be the conference’s top quarterback by far if he signed up for the Trojans. It’s almost certain, of course, that Riley and Rattler will go their separate ways. On the other hand, this is a stupid time of year.

The South Carolina Gamecocks could use a quarterback if Shane Beamer stays

Had the quarterback position been a little more solid in Columbia, the South Carolina Gamecocks would have been more than a 6-6 team in Shane Beamer’s first year. While the former Steve Spurrier student could potentially return to Norman to replace Riley, South Carolina is not a bad landing place for a player of Rattler’s caliber. The SEC is a step up, but South Carolina is on the rise.

While Rattler could get it working at either USC school, these three teams make the most sense.
