Texas, get ready for tourists. The summer travel season is just around the corner and as more Americans get vaccinated and COVID-19 restrictions lifted across the country, travelers looking for a safe, budget-friendly, and attractive getaway are looking to the Lone Star State.
According to a current one report On the WalletHub financial page, which lists the best summer travel destinations of 2021, the state has seven hotspots ideal for escaping the doldrums. To compile the list, WalletHub analyzed 100 of the largest metro areas using 42 key indicators, including the cost of the cheapest flight to each destination and the number of local attractions.
The Austin / Round Rock / Georgetown The area was the highest-ranking Texan subway on the list, reaching number 4 with an overall score of 70.4 out of a possible 100. The report also points to Austin’s relatively low local costs, good weather, and a number of local areas attractions that travelers may particularly like during the summer months Barton Springs Pool, the Bats on Congress Avenueand lots of outdoor activities.
That was not far behind San Antonio / New Braunfels Metro area, which landed at number 13 on the list with an overall score of 64.3. No doubt many people will swim our famous rivers there this season.
Other Texas communities that are among the top summer travel destinations include:
- Dallas / Fort Worth / Arlington29 with a total score of 59.43. (Of course, we know these are three separate cities, each worth visiting, but are grouped together in this review.)
- Houston / The Forests / Sugar Land46 with a total score of 57.43

- McAllen / Edinburgh / Mission93 with a total score of 45.12
The border town of McAllen is the only Texas destination listed in the top 5 for the report’s specific metrics. While number 5 with the highest travel costs and the most problems does not win McAllen awards, it is also number 1 with the lowest local costs.
The # 1 summer destination, according to the report, is the Orlando / Kissimmee / Sanford, Florida area, home to Walt Disney World and the Universal Orlando Resort, as well as other theme park attractions.
