3. 18 Micon Street

A member of the HIP (Highly Individual Places) hotel association18 Micon Street is located in the trendy Psirri district in central Athens. Here you will find a selection of tavernas and a 5-minute walk along the pedestrian streets, which are often picturesque paved, to the Acropolis. The design of the rooms and suites echoes the structure’s warehouse past with a funky industrial vibe, with exposed pipes, cement, wood, and bricks, yet the hotel still creates that intimate boutique feel.

There are a total of 15 rooms and suites, some with a view of the Acropolis and roof terraces with sun loungers, a loft suite and even one with a terrace whirlpool. Breakfast can be taken on the roof terrace or in the open reception area. The resistance piece is the relaxation area in the basement and the luggage room. It is also useful that they have a luxurious shower room – great for anyone looking to check out before a late flight.

The prices are between 120 and 220 euros per night, depending on the room or suite and the season. See the hotel website for more informations.

Pro tip: The name of the hotel comes from Mikon, an Athenian painter and sculptor from the 5th century BC. The building was once the warehouse of one of the first tool dealers in Athens and was also used as a trading shop.

4. Athens Mansion Luxury Suites

In the heart of the Athens Central Market, just a 10-minute walk from the famous Monastiraki flea market and the Ermou shopping street, the Athens Mansions Luxury Suites offers its guests 15 rooms and three suites on three floors in a lovingly restored town house from the 1930s (the name) a breakfast roof terrace with a view of the Acropolis.

As it is a listed (historic) building, the rooms have beautifully manicured ornate lights, friezes on the ceiling edges and ceiling roses. Together with the traditional closed elevator that only holds two people in total, the Athens Mansion Luxury Suites is a unique accommodation near the main attractions of the capital.

None of the rooms have a balcony, but the huge roof terrace makes up for it.
The porter gives an extra sense of security and helps with luggage.

Prices from 180 to 360 euros per night depending on the season and room / suite. See hotel website.

Pro tip: Athens Central Market is not the best area at night, although new investments have been made in the area with the renovation of Athens Mansion Luxury Suites. It’s a busy place, but the hotel provides guests with earplugs and the property’s windows are all double-glazed.

5. Moon and stars

Another intimate, vintage-style property in an enviable location near the Acropolis, the Moon and the Stars was lovingly developed by a married couple in a once-abandoned Art Deco building from the 1920s. The Grade II listed building – originally a home and wooden toy store – was developed in collaboration with the Greek Ministry of Culture to keep its original ornamentation.

There are only five suites at Moon and Stars, each with their own name and design such as Ballerina Suite and Bird of Happiness. All have either a queen or a king bed, a work area, and views of the Acropolis and the city and mountains beyond. Go to the rooftop terrace and enjoy breakfast or a glass of wine when you are back from your day of sightseeing.

The prices are between 108 and 160 euros per night, depending on the suite and the season. See the Hotel website for more informations.

Pro tip: Theodore, the owner and his wife can arrange a three hour classic vintage Fiat 500 tower the town where you drove to some of the hidden spots and had lunch in a tavern or picnic in the hills. Perfect for seeing a different side of Athens.
