Alpenglow luxury camping

5. Alpenglow Luxury Camping (Glacier View, Alaska)

Here’s one for the bucket list: camping on a remote glacier in Alaska after getting in by helicopter. Alaska’s largest and most accessible glacier, Matanuska, serves as the starting point for this overnight stay on the ice. And what a base Alpenglow is. With a glacier cocktail in hand, make yourself comfortable on one of the two deck chairs in your tent and enjoy the breathtaking view of the glacier. There is no electricity and you have to share a composting toilet, but just think about the bragging rights!

For a longer stay in the main camp, choose between a forest tent with a size of 3 x 12 feet for 2 people or a mountain tent with a size of 3 x 4 x 4 feet for 3 people. Each with Alaskan decor perched on a covered cedar deck with Adirondack or rocking chairs for spectacular views. This, too, is pure nature, with shared bathroom and without heat or electricity (charge your electronics in the common area); warm up under your down comforter, in a shared cedar whirlpool or by the fireplace.

How to get there: Fly to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, approximately a two and a half hour drive from Alpenglow.

Cost: Forest tents start at $ 159 per night and mountain tents at $ 139, including breakfast. The Glacier Overnight Adventure starts at $ 1,100 for two people in a basic mountaineering tent (the deluxe tent is $ 200 extra), including a helicopter ride, breakfast and dinner, and a guided one-hour glacier hike. The Alpenglow summer season ends at the beginning of September.
