Ammon News – The Ministry of Tourism and Antiques, in partnership with the World Tourism Organization (WTO) and with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), hosted a training course for tourism sector workers on safety and health standards that was newly approved on COVID-19 protocols.

The ministry said in a press release that the course, practically held on Thursday via Zoom, targeted 80 ministry and governorate officials, inspectors from several institutions, officials from Aqaba and Petra authorities and the Jordan Tourist Restaurants Association.

The Ministry’s Deputy Secretary-General and Director of Awareness, Guidance and Control Department, Hisham Abbadi, said during the opening session that this was part of an integrated program to promote the tourism sector to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

WTO Representative Basmah Al-Mayman emphasized the importance of such courses in educating targeted staff about safety and health measures and newly accredited protocols, praising Jordan’s leading efforts to preserve tourist facilities and the control and awareness-raising efforts of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

EBRD representative Billa Suman said Jordan was one of the first countries to coordinate with during the pandemic, highlighting the continued joint collaboration between the bank and the kingdom.

The ministry announced that it would run three days of training on safety and health standards and protocols for travel guides, tourist traffic and traditional handicrafts for three days from March 9-11.
