JACKSONVILLE, NC (WNCT) – A grand opening of Onslow County’s Big Branch Big Park officially allows cyclists to use the trails.

The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday afternoon in the park at 261 NW Corridor Blvd in Jacksonville.

Assistant district manager Ben Warren says the park was funded by a grant from the state’s recreational trails program and local tourism funds. The leaders hope it will bring tourism and help local businesses in the area. They say plans in the future will turn hotels, stores, and restaurants into business.

The trails are ready to ride, but the park needs to be built over the next month. A public toilet and changing area will be available shortly.

Hours of operation for the park are from dusk to dawn, says Warren. He also said that may change once construction is complete.
