DENVER – A new poll from AAA More Coloradans are ready to travel as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention relax guidelines and COVID-19 vaccines become widely available.

The survey found that 25% of Coloradans say they are more comfortable traveling because they got their COVID-19 vaccination, and 42% of respondents say they are more confident about safety measures like wearing masks and disinfection protocols to have .

“We knew from the start that the vaccine was key to restoring travel confidence,” said Skyler McKinley, AAA’s regional director of public affairs. “What we didn’t know was how quickly demand would return. We’re seeing the biggest monthly bumps in travel inquiries since last March. When you think about travel, remember, this is everyone else.”

The survey also found that 60% of Coloradans plan to travel in 2021, with 46% of travelers planning to take their next three-day trip before July.

Even so, the pandemic continues to take a toll on travel expenses. 70% of respondents said they would travel more if there wasn’t a pandemic. 44% said they can travel more comfortably after vaccination.

AAA said that due to the unsafe travel environment, more and more Coloradans are buying travel insurance. Almost 40% say they are more likely to buy travel insurance now than they did before the pandemic started. According to the AAA, this means an increase of five percentage points compared to January.

The popularity of air travel appears to have improved recently. 41% of Colorado residents say they are comfortable with a commercial flight. That’s almost 10 percentage points more than in January, said AAA.

In addition, 56 percent of those surveyed by AAA said they feel comfortable in a hotel or resort. That is almost 10 percentage points more than in January.

According to the survey, the most popular types of travel destinations among Colorado travelers are:

• National /State parks (32%)

• Beach destinations (23%)

• City / main subway destination (23%)

AAA recommends that Coloradans work with a travel agent or advisor when planning a vacation because they will have access to travel options, offers, and resources that they might not otherwise find.

The AAA Consumer Pulse Survey was conducted online among Colorado residents March 12-18. 400 residents took part in the survey.
