Cruises on the Magdalena River will start in December 2023

South American tour operator Metropolitan Touring has teamed up with river cruise company AmaWaterways to begin river cruises on Colombia’s Magdalena River.

A new, custom built river cruise ship will be sailing along the Magdalena in December 2023.

“Since my early student days when I was exploring the Amazon, I haven’t felt the excitement of discovering a new travel destination that is as rich in biodiversity and culture as I found on the Magdalena River in Colombia,” said Rudi Carpenter, President and Co-Founder of AmaWaterways. “I am absolutely fascinated by the rich history, wildlife and warm welcome that awaits our guests when our intimate all-suite ship sets sail in December 2023.”

Guests can choose between two 7-night pre- and post-cruise itineraries with onshore programs to explore the Magdalena River. Guests can also take part in activities such as kayaking, hiking, and bird watching.

“Colombia has always been a country close to my heart and every trip I have taken to the Magdalena over the years has been filled with spectacular, life-affirming experiences that touched my soul,” said Roque Sevilla, owner of Metropolitan Touring. “It was therefore of the utmost importance for me and our company to find the right partner to develop the first eco-friendly river cruise experience for Colombia. We know that Rudi, Kristin and the entire AmaWaterways team share our passion for the Magdalena River and we are delighted that together we can create innovative and enriching experiences for our guests. “
