American Melody docked in Davenport as part of their first cruise on the Mississippi.

DAVENPORT, Iowa – American Melody docked at River Heritage Park in Davenport on her first Mississippi cruise on Sunday.

The ship is part of the new “Modern Series” from American Cruise Lines. She is currently sailing a 22-day cruise, the longest cruise on the Mississippi. The guests were supposed to embark in New Orleans, but due to Hurricane Ida, she was moved to Natchez, Miss. Its destination is Saint Paul, Minn.

American Melody can accommodate 175 passengers. At Davenport the guests were greeted with a band and Mayor Mike Matson presented the captain with a book about the city for the ship’s library.

Former Davenport Mayor and now Director of City Partnerships for American Cruise Lines, Frank Klipsch, said the cruise company will build five modern riverboats over the next five years.

“We will be more and more on the Mississippi. The stops we have here, we will make 22 times in Davenport this year, but more often in the future,” said Klipsch. “We’re so excited. Davenport is a great stopover that creates some extraordinary memories with our guests.”

American Melody is the company’s second new modern riverboat this year and the fourth riverboat in the Mississippi fleet. American Jazz kicked off this March, and in 2022, American Symphony and American Serenade will be on the river.
