Itanagar: To promote adventure tourism in the state, the Arunachal Pradesh the government Department of Tourism handed over paragliders and paragliding equipment to seven pilots of the Paragliding Association of Arunachal (PAA) on Tuesday.

The paragliders were handed over by Tourism Director Abu Tayeng under the ambitious Prime Minister Paryatan Vikas Yojna (CMPVY), a major flagship program of the state government to support unemployed young people.

The CMPVY is managed by the Ministry of Tourism through the state-run cooperative Apex Bank Ltd.

The Deputy Tourism Director Bengia Manna Sonam informed on the occasion of the event, which took place here in the Directorate for Tourism that so far 20 unemployed young people from the state who have completed the paragliding courses have received extended support under the CMPVY.

“Tagit Sorang, who climbed Mount Everest last month, was also supported under the program,” said Sonam, expressing his satisfaction with the performance of Everest.

She further motivated the paraglider pilots to take advantage of the government’s assistance and to make the state proud in their field.

PAA President Vijay Sonam announced that Bazaar in Lepa-Rada District and Paya near Aalo in West Siang, Anini in Dibang Valley, Mechuka in Shi-Yomi and Dambuk in Lower Dibang Valley District are suitable for paragliding.

He asked the tourism department to include paragliding as one of the events in all adventure festivals sponsored by the department to promote adventure tourism in the state.

Vijay thanked the department for providing wings for the pilots and announced that around 40 paraglider pilots have been trained under the PPA and 20 pilots, including 5 female pilots, have been supported under the CMPVY.

For his part, Director Tayeng praised the efforts of PPA and assured the organization that all possible support would be given.
