The closure of the Asa Wright Nature Center is temporary, said Randall Mitchell, Minister for Tourism, Culture and the Arts.

On an urgent Senate question, the minister responded yesterday that Asa Wright, like other tourism operators, disrupted his revenue model due to the country’s closed borders under COVID-19 restrictions.

“In his credit, the Asa Wright Board kept its staff until it recently closed, which I was told will be temporary until borders reopen and travel resumed,” said Mitchell.

He announced that he had a conversation with a board member who said the maintenance and safety of the premises was of the utmost importance.

The board is expected to make recommendations soon.
