ATLANTA – People who stay at a fancy Atlanta hotel say their belongings are stolen while they sleep.

It has happened a couple of times since September at the Crowne Plaza Midtown on West Peachtree Street.

Channel 2’s Matt Johnson was at the hotel where there are still many questions about why and how the robberies keep happening.

In either case, the victims said they locked their doors but somehow, possibly with a master or recycling key, someone comes right next to them while they sleep.

Ajah Cottman said she woke up last Sunday to find her credit cards had been stolen. She is one of at least ten people who have reported thefts there in the past few months.

Cottoman said it was even more scary that someone was in her room while she slept.

“How could someone come into my room? My purse was on the bedside table by my head, ”Cottman said. “Anything could have happened that night. Thank God it wasn’t, but anything could have happened. “

One victim told police that he was “woken up by an unknown man who was not wearing a shirt or mask”.

Another victim told police that he woke up with a cracked door, the security lock was still in place and his belongings were missing.

“As much as we spent staying there, you should feel safe,” said Cottman.

A spokesman for the hotel issued a statement to Johnson, in which he said:

“We have contacted Crowne Plaza Atlanta Midtown, which is independently owned and operated, and we know the hotel’s management team is working with local authorities to investigate these incidents. The hotel also has a 24-hour security service and has added additional patrols to ensure the highest level of security for guests and team members. “

Security expert Parris Brooks, CEO of Gridiron Protection, said it was possible that a master key or an old key could be used.

“You definitely need to do a key check,” said Brooks.

He said you can take steps to ensure that old keys cannot be easily used.

“No matter what, just ask for a new key,” said Brooks. “Make sure and make sure that it is a new key and that it has not been duplicated.”
