When it comes to Cheshire, few who know it and the local business community better than Chamber of Commerce President Yetta Augur.

For that reason, it came as no surprise when the Cheshire City Council recently appointed her for a second term on the Board of Directors of the Central Connecticut Regional Tourism District.

“It is a great honor for me to be appointed (again). That’s a great distinction, ”said Augur. “The term of office is two years and I look forward to continuing my work on the board and continuing to promote Cheshire as best I can.”

The district spans the central Connecticut River valley and coastline and provides visitor and meeting information on the 65 cities that make up the area, including Cheshire.

“I make sure that Cheshire is accurately and appropriately displayed for anyone visiting the Middletown Visitor Center,” added Augur, “and that flyers and maps of Cheshire and our open spaces are well stocked and available to anyone who wants them. “

Augur also ensures that the Chamber of Commerce has access to these cards for any Cheshire resident who wants them. Now that the weather is slowly warming up, Augur is excited to be promoting all that Cheshire has to offer.

Despite the global pandemic that has shut down many local businesses, Cheshire has seen an unexpected boom in economic growth.

“Cheshire has really made a name for itself in the last few years and we want to continue that,” said Augur. “I also have to thank Jerry Sitko (Cheshire’s Economic Development Coordinator) for his intuitiveness in bringing various businesses to Cheshire.”

In the past year alone, Cheshire approved plans for several breweries, restaurants and a large cultural center at Ball & Socket Arts that Augur believes will add to Cheshire’s charm and success over the next few years.

“Cheshire has so much to offer and we want people to know we are going to stay here,” said Augur. “It’s only getting better and I can’t wait for people to see our city come into its own. I am particularly excited about the start of the Ball & Socket Arts project. It’s going to be fantastic for our community and our residents. “

Councilor David Borowy commented on Augur’s experience as President of the Chamber of Commerce, calling it a “perfect fit” for the position.

Augur’s tenure on the Tourism District Board of Directors runs until December 2022.
