VICTORIA – More aid to British Columbia’s troubled tourism sector is on the way.

British Columbia’s Prime Minister John Horgan and Minister of Tourism, Melanie Mark, will today announce increased support for the sector advocating more aid in the province as it grapples with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A group of four tourism and hospitality industry associations responded to BC’s budget announced last month, saying in a press release at the time that tourism-related spending would be welcome but it may not be enough to save some businesses, before the current travel restrictions are lifted.

Non-essential travel between three BC regional zones is restricted until at least May 24th, when the province’s Emergency Ordinance expires.

Treasury Secretary Selina Robinson said a $ 120 million fund to support budget tourism is based on industry recovery projections.

Eligible businesses related to tourism can also apply for BC’s COVID-19 Small and Medium Business Recovery Program.
