Locals have long understood the beauty of Ballina, but now vacationers are gaining a new appreciation for our slice of paradise.

Ballina was announced as a finalist for the first Top Tourism Town Awards for NSW, along with 15 other ambitious cities from across the state in the Cities Over 5,000 Population category.

The Top Tourism Town Awards offer municipalities, chambers of commerce, visitor centers and local governments the opportunity to show what makes their city special and unique, while promoting the development of tourism and increasing visitor numbers.

“These awards are all about community collaboration. Groups such as local chambers of commerce, tourism boards, councils and visitor information centers have come together to promote their city as a destination worth celebrating, ”said Greg Binskin, executive manager of the NSW Tourism Industry Council.

“The process was very competitive with inspiring editorial, image and video content, accompanied by a compelling three- to four-day itinerary that is essential for a Top Tourism Town finalist.”

Simon Spellicy, President of the NSW Tourism Industry Council, said the quality of the entries was remarkable and an exciting example of what NSW has to offer.

“It was great to see so many cities in New South Wales win the Top Tourism Town Awards,” said Spellicy. “Regional cities do a tremendous job of attracting visitors who all support their local businesses and economies. This has been a wonderful opportunity to recognize and reward that work.”

The public is invited to comment. Voting is now possible until Friday, May 14, 2021.
