Greece is in the Top 10 European Travel Destinations of choice for travelers main source markets, according to the latest study published this week by INSETE, the research department of Greek Tourism Association (SETE).
More precisely after the “Trends and preferences for international travel on the Greek markets in Europe and the USA” under the direction of census For INSETE, Greece is the second most popular travel destination in the Italian market, the third in Great Britain, Germany and France and the fifth in the Austrian market.
The survey was carried out in the last two weeks of September on 7,100 people over the age of 17 from eight of the most important Greek source markets for incoming tourism, namely Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the USA, and focuses on city trips and Sea and sun vacation.
The central theses after INSETE:
– Sea & sun are still the main reason for traveling, followed by city trips
– The final cost is a key factor influencing travel decision as well as safety in times of Covid
– Travelers opt for three to seven nights with those from France, Germany and the Netherlands who prefer a holiday of at least 10 days
– German, French, Italian, Austrian, Swiss, and Dutch travelers want to travel during the summer months of 2022, while British and American tourists want to travel by March
– The top accommodation options for most markets – with the exception of the US and UK – are 4 or 5 star hotels. Short-term rental is the preferred choice for city trips

– In addition to sea and sun, travelers are interested in parallel activities such as cultural events and city tours
Tourists from the UK, France and the US plan to visit a city in the next six months through February, while the majority of Germans, Italians, Austrians, Swiss and Dutch choose to visit by March
– Travelers who opt for city breaks are also looking for a mix of experiences such as shopping, dining, day trips and sports.
