CEDAR FALLS – A great second half saw the Baxter boys’ basketball team an easy win against Valley Lutheran on Tuesday night.

The Iowa Star Conference South Division varsity double header was compiled after a weather related shift. And the Bolts broke off a close game at halftime with a second half of 35: 3 with a 59:22 win.

Baxter led 18-12 after one and 24-19 at halftime. The Bolts defeated the Crusaders 18-0 in the third and 17-3 in the fourth.

Cody Damman led the bolts (13-7 total, 7-5 in conference) with 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals, while Carson Scroggins had 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Nate McMinamen got 11 points, five rebounds and three steals, Rory Heer seven points and three boards and Kael Johnston six points and four rebounds.

Treyton Travis scored six points, Trice Clapper had five points and four rebounds, and John Scroggins grabbed three boards.

The bolts shot 32 percent off the ground and won the game despite only scoring 2 out of 16 from 3-point range. They let 17 of 22 off the free throw line.

Valley Lutheran fell 0-17 overall and 0-10 in conference.

Baxter 73, Valley Lutheran 21

Eleven players scored at least four points, with Baxter leading on a quarter by 17 points, relegating Valley Lutheran 73-21 to the Iowa Star Conference South Division Tuesday night.

Lily Vansice was the only Baxter player to hit double digits, but six scored at least six points in a win.

The Bolts led 21-4 after one, 30-11 at halftime and beat the Crusaders (0-18, 0-13) 18-1 in the third.

Vansice scored 13 points and grabbed three boards, Bree Buswell nine points, four rebounds, three assists and five steals, and Allyson Padget eight points, five rebounds and three steals.

McKenzie Eslinger had eight points and six boards, Elie Tuhn had six points, three assists and three steals, and Maddie Pierce had four points, five rebounds and four steals.

Merrin Ziesman scored seven points, Cassy Berg four points, four rebounds and five assists, and Brooke Bacon four points and eight boards.

Mandee Selover contributed four points and three rebounds, Lexi Samson put in four points and Sophie Meyer distributed three assists.

The bolts (19-2, 11-1) made 44 percent of the ground, hitting 3-of-15 from 3-point range, and connecting 10-of-21 from the line. Baxter also bounced back from Valley Lutheran 46-20.

Taylor Mauser led the Crusaders with 15 points and eight rebounds. Valley Lutheran shot 26 percent off the ground and made 26 sales.
