As the holiday season approaches, many people will be planning and booking vacations in the coming weeks. A new WalletHub roundup highlights the top winter vacation destinations in the US and a number of areas in Texas.

On Tuesday, WalletHub released one sum up of “Best Winter Vacation Destinations” in the US To determine this ranking, WalletHub used various metrics such as area safety, activities, attractions, weather, travel and local costs, and “issues” to compile a range of US metropolitan statistics to compare areas.

The company’s “Best Winter Vacation Destinations” lists were broken down into individual rankings for people looking for either warmer or cooler areas to vacation. Overall, Georgia’s Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Alpharetta MSA led the cold weather lap.

While no Texas cities were featured in the “Top Cold Weather Destinations” roundup, the Lone Star State appears on the WalletHub list of travel destinations for people looking for a warmer winter vacation.

The Austin-Round Rock-Georgetown area topped WalletHub’s list of hot-weather destinations with a total of 66.69, enough to beat runner-up Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise (66.66).

On the same roundup, Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington made it to # 4, Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land was # 5, and San Antonio-New Braunfels was # 6. Other areas in Texas on this list include: Killeen-Temple ( No. 24), McAllen-Edinburg Mission (No. 26), Corpus Christi (No. 32), Brownsville-Harlingen (No. 35) and Beaumont-Port Arthur (No. 37).
