DELAND, Fla. — —. Kierstan Bell and Tishara Morehouse combined for 47 points to lead the No. 29 FGCU women’s basketball team (13-2, 6-0 ASUN) to an 84-62 win over Stetson (4-7, 2-4) on the road at Edmunds Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the FGCU not only won a total of 12 times in a row, but also extended its winning streak from last year to 17 years. This is the second longest in the nation after South Carolina’s 20-game stretch. They also won 24 on the road against the ASUN competition and improved to 29-4 against Stetson, which is nine straight wins.

“It was good to get two wins on this trip,” said FGCU head coach Karl Smesko said. “We still have a lot of work to do, but we’re making progress.”

Only 12 games in her career in green and blue, Bell (Allianz, Ohio / Canton McKinley HS / Ohio State) produced her ninth double-double behind a performance of 25 points and 11 rebounds. In doing so, she broke the record in the Division I era of the program for most doubles doubles previously held jointly by Sarah Hansen and Whitney Knight.

The second striker finished the field 10:15 on Saturday and scored an average of 26.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, two blocks, 1.5 assists and a steal in two games this weekend against Stetson. She has scored at least 24 points four times in six conference games. In total she has nine games with at least 20 points this year and six of her doubles doubles have at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Morehouse (Milwaukee, Wisconsin / Rufus King HS / Western Nebraska CC)Saturday’s game opened on 14 points in the first quarter before ending on 22 points, adding five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Equally important, she has only flipped the ball four times in the last five games.

Aaliyah Stanley (Boynton Beach, Florida / Oxford Academy / Eastern Michigan) finished third on the team with 12 over 16 minutes from the bench. It was her fifth double-digit game in six conference games when she finished 4-8 from the field. Tyra Cox (Orlando, Florida / Lake Highland Prep / William & Mary) added 10 points, a game of four steals and three assists before the foul. She did her damage in just 20 minutes when she posted her sixth double-digit performance this year.

Emma List (9) and Seneca Hackley (6) combined for 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.

As a team, the FGCU finished the field with 32: 66 (0.485), which is synonymous with the third-best shooting percentage of the squad in a game this season. That total included a 14 versus 39 performance (0.359) from a distance. This marked the sixth game in a row that the Eagles scored at least 10 3-point points, and they have recorded a total of 13 such performances in 15 games this year. The green and blue also flipped the ball just eight times, which was the second lowest total for the team that year.
