The Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) announced the appointment of Charles H. Jeffers II as Chief Executive Officer effective April 1, according to local press reports.

Jeffers takes over the management after Glenn Jones served as interim CEO of BTA since March 2020, shortly before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Jeffers replaces Kevin Dallas, who stepped down as CEO in February 2020.

Jeffers is from Bermuda and was suspended through a worldwide search after Dallas’ departure, BTA officials said. Jeffers will join the agency after retiring as Chief Operating Officer of Visit Baltimore, the destination administration organization for Baltimore, Maryland.

“As global tourism grapples with the aftermath of the ongoing pandemic, it is critical that the tourism leadership is in competent hands as we work to get to the other side of the crisis,” said Philip Barnett, chairman of HR -Subcommittee of the BTA board.

“We are delighted to have a local professional with over 26 years of high-level tourism experience in this critical role,” said Barnett. “He is able to lead the team through the post-COVID-19 era and beyond.”

“We are indebted to Glenn Jones, who served in the interim role when the global health crisis hit,” said Wayne Caines, chairman of BTA. “His relentless work ethic, adaptability and adept communication skills have helped stabilize the tourism ship while keeping our people and stakeholders in the industry busy after unprecedented disruptions over the past year.”
