RICHMOND — Richmond-based Retro Hospitality has recently taken over management for two hotels.

Retro Hospitality, which manages the Blackburn Inn in Staunton, will now be managing Quirk Hotel Richmond and Quirk Hotel Charlottesville. The hotels’ contract with Hyatt Hotels will end March 31, a release said.

It was announced in 2017 that a 49-room boutique hotel, owned and operated by the Blackburn Inn LLC and Retro Hospitality, would be coming to the Villages at Staunton. The Blackburn Inn opened in 2018 and is located in the renovated administration office of what used to be the Western State Lunatic Asylum.

Now, two Quirk Hotels have been added to the brand. Other properties managed by the group include Dairy Market in Charlottesville and the Hotel Petersburg in Petersburg.

“We have lived the Quirk brand, and been stewards and champions of the Quirk brand, since inception,” said Paul Cooper, Retro Hospitality CEO. “We are honored to assume management, and we firmly believe that our philosophy of local-focused, local-led programming and partnerships will enable both Quirk properties to continue to flourish.”

Quirk Richmond is a 73-room boutique hotel on Broad Street in Richmond’s Downtown Arts District. It opened in 2015 as the first of its kind in the area by local entrepreneurs Ted and Katie Ukrop. In 2020 they opened a second property, Quirk Charlottesville, an 80-room hotel on the university town’s main street, between the University of Virginia and Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall, the release said.

“We want both Quirk hotels to reflect and celebrate their local communities — which is why we selected Retro Hospitality as our new management company. As a Richmond-based business, Retro’s experience in the boutique hotel space and their local expertise will help us continue to elevate the Quirk Brand, focusing on the guest experience and the arts. We are excited about Retro Hospitality’s commitment to our communities, the extent of their network, and their ability to bring us best-in-class operations,” Ted Ukrop said in a release.
