Bohol’s tourism industry is far from recovering, according to Governor Arthur Yap. Bohol, one of the country’s top travel destinations, recently reopened to visitors, but Yap said the number of tourists has not yet returned to preandemic levels. “From now on, visitors to the resorts in Bohol will be residents. We are the only customers, ”said Yap in an online briefing. He said they received 1,000 to 1,500 visitors a month, compared to around 30,000 before the pandemic. “So it’s still very inadequate,” he said. He believes the recovery of Bohol tourism will depend on the COVID-19 vaccination drive. “If the country’s vaccination program were properly implemented and we could vaccinate 70 to 80 million people, I believe we would have a chance to return to normal for tourism and business investment,” he said. – Leila B.
