Gurgaon: The health department on Wednesday urged hotels in Gurgaon to be vigilant when doing business with travelers from 12 “endangered” countries, amid concerns about the new Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2. All hotels were asked to provide details of guests who have recently traveled to these countries.
The department said it will be collecting samples of hotel guests who have traveled from the UK, South Africa, Brazil, Bangladesh, Botswana, China and Hong Kong, Mauritius, New Zealand, Singapore, Israel and Zimbabwe. All tourists from these countries must demonstrate a negative RT-PCR test within 72 hours of their arrival and provide their full address and contact details so that in the event of a positive Covid they can be traced.
“If someone from ‘at risk’ countries manages to get a room in the city without an RT-PCR report, the health department has instructed the hotel to do the test for such guests and they will have to stay in the hotel room for the next 14 Days. Their health will be monitored and on day eight they will have to undergo another RT-PCR test. In the event of a positive test, the hotel must report the case to the department, ”said Virender Yadav, Gurgaon’s chief medical officer. This was decided at a meeting with the task force at the county level on Wednesday. The department will hold a meeting with hotels and multinationals as they are typically associated with people from “vulnerable” countries, officials said.
