NEW LONDON — The New London-Spicer boys basketball team got off to a great start Saturday and with it earned an easy victory in the Section 3AA-North playoffs.

Second-seeded NLS beat seventh-seeded Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City 81-36.

The Wildcats did it by earning a 50-13 halftime lead.

NLS plays West Central Area at 7:30 pm Thursday in Willmar in the next round of the playoffs.

West Central Area, the third seed, beat sixth-seeded Eden Valley-Watkins 65-50.

The Section 3AA-North final is 2:30 pm Saturday at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. The overall 3AA final is 8 pm March 17 at SMSU.

Brycen Christensen led the way Saturday. He had 16 points, six rebounds, three steals and three blocks for NLS. Grant Paffrath also had 16 points for the Wildcats with three assists and Payton Coahran contributed 14 points.

For ACGC, Kyler Pickle was the only Falcon in double figures, finishing with 14 points.

Dominic Dietel sank the first of two free throws with 0.4 seconds remaining to help fifth-seeded Litchfield to the victory at No. 4 Paynesville.

Alex Draeger led the Dragons with 22 points, including six 3-pointers. Beau Weseloh added 11 points and Dietel had 10.

Chase Bayer had 17 points, Grayson Fuchs 13 and Max Athmann 11 for the Bulldogs.

Eight days after losing to MACCRAY in overtime, second-seeded Lakeview beat the seventh-seeded Wolverines at Montevideo.
