SALT LAKE COUNTY – Labor Day weekend is widely forecast to be one of the busiest travel times this year.

So some local accommodations struggled during the long weekend vacation.

If you want to wake up in 1892, Kara Alden is for you.

In January 2020, she and her husband took over the Ellerbeck Bed and Breakfast in Salt Lake City.

Although they were hit by the pandemic almost immediately, this year they made up for lost time.

“It’s full when you move into spring / summer. We’re basically busy every night, “Alden said.

She says this was the case throughout Labor Day weekend, and her calendar is now fully booked for most of September.

“Is that normal?” She asked herself, “or is it some kind of post-COVID bubble? But either way, our location in Salt Lake feels very stable. “

Others see that too.

“I’ve been very busy the past six months,” said Fran Hansen.

Hansen has been running her Bed & Breakfast in Sandy for 20 years.

She believes the pandemic helped her stay busy because it gives guests a more intimate experience.

“I think people are just looking for a safe place,” she said, “where there aren’t many people around.”

While these bed and breakfasts are full, employees of several other hotels (who refused to speak on camera) tell FOX 13 News that business has been slower than expected.
