Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams announced that he will enter the transfer portal on Monday. Williams doesn’t rule out a return to Norman, but the freshman signalcaller will be a coveted addition to several programs that seek to strengthen the quarterback position. Williams was a dynamic caller for the Sooners that year, replacing Spencer Rattler as the team’s starter, throwing 1,912 yards and 21 touchdowns to four interceptions in 11 games (six starts). The former five-star contender also added 435 yards and six points.

Where could Williams end up as a transfer? Here are 13 teams (in alphabetical order):

13 potential transfer targets for Caleb Williams

Maroon
Auburn has a clear need for a quarterback after Bo Nix moved to Oregon. While the Tigers have a proven option in TJ Finley, along with talented newcomers in Holden Geriner and Dematrius Davis, Williams would be a clear upgrade to the position.

Clemson
The Tigers are not an active recruiter in the transfer portal. However, given Williams’ talent and the obvious question marks for Clemson in the next year’s position, manager Dabo Swinney could turn to the portal for help. Also, Williams was offered by the Tigers who dropped out of high school.

Florida
Emory Jones is expected to hit the transfer portal, leaving Anthony Richardson as a favorite to start in 2022. Williams was offered out of high school by the Gators and should be on the radar for new coach Billy Napier.

Georgia
The Bulldogs are stockpiling quarterbacks en route for recruitment, but if Williams is interested in getting to Athens it would be difficult for the program to miss that opportunity.

Oklahoma
Although Williams is moving, his testimony suggests a return to Norman is not out of the question. The Sooners offense is led by new coordinator Jeff Lebby (previously with Ole Miss) and brings back promising talent at the receiver. A return from Williams, however, was tarnished with the arrival of UCF transfer Dillon Gabriel.

UCLA (updated)
UCF Transfer Dillon was signed to UCLA but he’s now moving to Oklahoma. After Gabriel leaves Los Angeles, the Bruins could be another landing pad for Williams.

USC
This is the obvious landing site for Williams. With former coach Lincoln Riley taking over USC, Williams reuniting with the former Sooner leader would make a lot of sense.

The next rank / longshot contenders

Maryland
Williams is from Washington, DC, so a transfer to Maryland would bring him closer to home. Taulia Tagovailoa, however, is firmly anchored as the starting quarterback at College Park for 2022.

Michigan / Ohio state
Let’s sum up these Big Ten powers at this point. Both Michigan and Ohio State offered to quit high school for Williams, but both schools are likely to be quarterback next year. If Williams moved to Columbus he would have to sit behind CJ Stroud, and the Wolverines are bringing back JJ McCarthy and Cade McNamara.

Nebraska
The Cornhuskers are expected to be active in the quarterback aid transfer portal. Leaving Oklahoma for Nebraska seems unlikely, however.

north Carolina
Sam Howell goes to the NFL, with Drake Maye and Jacolby Criswell fighting for the starting gun this off-season. North Carolina would be closer to home, but seems unlikely to fit here.

Be missed
Matt Corral enters the NFL with Luke Altmyer slated to jump into spring training as the favorite for the # 1 job. The Rebels will likely be actively looking for a quarterback on the portal this off-season.

Penn State
Happy Valley and Penn State would be near Williams’ home in Washington, DC. However, the Nittany Lions may not seek the quarterback too much for help as five-star newcomer Drew Allar joins Sean Clifford in 2022.
