Carnival Celebration is the second Excel-class cruise ship ordered by Carnival Corporation for its subsidiary Carnival Cruise Line. It will be a sister ship to the first Excel-class ship, Mardi Gras, due to enter service in 2021.

The cruise ship is under construction at the Finnish Meyer Turku shipyard. The first steel cutting ceremony for the ship took place in January 2021. It will be unveiled in November 2022 from Terminal F, the third terminal in Port Miami, on the occasion of Carnival Cruise Line’s 50th birthday celebrations.
