“It’s a tough blow, but we have to play defense, play our kind of basketball,” said Johnson. “Our brand of basketball is not one person wins the game, everyone wins us the game.”

Martin scored 17 points on the team, grabbed four rebounds and distributed four assists. Holmes had nine points and second year Nassir Binion came as a reserve and thrived as he scored 13 points and took eight rebounds. He made the greatest damage in the fourth quarter, when the Cadets were listed with up to 21.

CBC led 37-26 at halftime, despite the sophistication of the 7-foot-2 center picking up three fouls on Jon Bol and being relegated to the bench. He ended up with 11 points, eight rebounds and blocked two shots, but the Cadets extended their lead when he was off the field.

“We were able to find the gaps in the zone early. We were able to get in the middle, take advantage of the backend and get layups, ”said CBC trainer Justin Tatum. “We didn’t take early jump shots, but when we were able to attack the inside of their zone it got us going.”

Overton (8-3) had to do without 6-8 junior Jailen Hardaway, but had more than enough firepower to scare CBC into preparation for Saturday’s matchup. Regular finished on 20 points, eight rebounds and blocked five shots. Junior guard Jordan Frison had 10 points and senior guard Jherrone Jones had 12 points to go with three rebounds and four assists.
