CHARLOTTE, NC – National Travel and Tourism Week offers a handy excuse to learn about the local tourism industry – an idea adopted by the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority. Few parts of the national or local economy have suffered more than hotels, restaurants, bars and other human-intensive businesses for obvious reasons. Fourteen months of Covid-19 brought with it mandatory capacity and travel limits, as well as persistent consumer hesitation.

In view of falling trends in infections, hospital stays and deaths as well as rising vaccination rates – 50% of North Carolinians are at least partially vaccinated – more and more people are willing to leave the house. Or at least plan to leave the house.

“I’m pretty excited about the recovery we’re seeing,” said Tom Murray, CEO of the Visitors’ Board, to CBJ. “Especially on the vacation travel side. We see that (hotel) occupancy is returning to a fairly high level. “
