Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed on Wednesday to start the “Greece-China Year of Culture and Tourism” from September 2021 and to extend it to 2022 in order to further strengthen relations and the flow of tourists between them the two countries to increase.

The telephone discussion took place on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the “Integrated Strategic Partnership” (2006), which upgraded relations between Greece and China from a constructive engagement to a strategic partnership.

According to government sources, bilateral trade, investment, tourism and cultural cooperation were the main items on the agenda, but attention was also drawn to the role that China can play in consolidating stability in the Eastern Mediterranean as it is a permanent member of the UN Security Council,

Finally, the Greek Prime Minister accepted an invitation to participate in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
