China’s tourism sector rose 228.9 percent to 27.17 billion yuan (about 4.14 billion US dollars) during the three-day Qingming Festival holiday, according to an estimate by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Monday.

China made 145 million trips between April 3 and April 5, maintaining a high flow of passengers, up 142 percent from a year earlier, the Department of Transportation estimated.

According to NetsUnion Clearing Corporation, 1.72 trillion yuan in transactions were made online during the reporting period, up 48.9 percent year over year.
