Some delegates attending the annual sessions of the Chinese Parliament and its advisory body due to start this week will propose the release of Covid-19 Vaccination records that they say some normalcy will be restored, the Global Times reported on Wednesday.

Zhu Zhengfu, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said China should promote mutual recognition of such vaccination records around the world in order to promote international tourism and economic exchanges.

Zhu told the Global Times, published by the official People’s Daily of the ruling Chinese Communist Party, that international arrivals could be exempted from quarantine requirements if they had a negative nucleic acid test and a vaccination certificate.

The annual meetings of the Chinese Stamp Parliament, the National People’s Congress (NPC) and its advisory body, the CPPCC, are scheduled to begin on Friday and Thursday, respectively. Delegates attending these NPC and CPPCC meetings will submit proposals for new laws or regulations for consideration during this time, although not all of them will become law.

The newspaper said Witman Hung Wai-man, an NPC MP, has also suggested that the central government issue vaccination certificates that are recognized in the mainland and Hong Kong. City residents with such a passport and a negative Covid-19 nucleic acid test result should be able to travel to the mainland without being subject to quarantine requirements, he said.

China has largely managed to beat Covid-19 after the first outbreak that occurred in late 2019 and paralyzed most of the country early last year.

The pandemic has since spread around the world and has claimed almost 2.65 million lives worldwide to date.
