CORONADO, California – The hustle and bustle of the vacation industry returns to Coronado.

“It was completely full yesterday,” said Charles Higgins, who lived at the Hotel Del. “We just enjoy our family and we’re in San Diego. It’s great. We love it!”

“The weekend was crazy,” said Benny Castillo, reception manager at the El Cordova Hotel across the street.

The pandemic was a bit tougher in smaller hotels. The state forced it to close in December. Now they have made it through the winter and with the county in the red row, the hotel reservation lines are ringing off the hook.

“People just kept streaming in all weekend and we were almost sold out both nights,” said Castillo. “It’s like we all wake up from a coma and say, ‘Hey, the world still exists.'”

Tony Perri is the owner of the Coronado Beach Company Island Tours, which offers a walking tour of the city. It is also the first stop for hotel guests looking for breakfast.

“Oh my god, it’s so great to connect with people,” said Perri. “I had lines out my door and we sold over 200 donuts yesterday.”
