Alarmed by a surge in virus cases, the Punjab government is considering tough measures against violations of Covid norms.

While curfew has already been imposed in eight districts, Jalandhar DC Ghanshyam Thori today ordered hotels, wedding palaces, banquet halls, restaurants and religious sites to keep CCTV footage of events on their premises for at least 15 days. This was done to ensure strict compliance with standards, including the limitation of gatherings (100 for indoor and 200 for outdoor).

In a further step, the civil surgeon Dr. Balwant Singh, the government has allowed teachers to register for the vaccination.

District (secondary) education officer Harinder Pal Singh said teachers are viewed as front line workers.

Regarding the closure of schools for students, Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla said: “The exams will be held on schedule, although they can be staggered to ensure fewer visitors on a given day.”
