The Crookston Pirate boys’ tennis team let up just one point in their two matches in Fergus Falls on Thursday, April 21.

By changing three players’ positions, Crookston was able to collect one more point against Fergus Falls than their previous meeting on April 11. Jack Garmen moved back to No. 1 singles, where he started the season, bumping Erik Coauette to No. 2 singles, and Mason Owens paired up with Evan Christensen again at No. 1 doubles.

Garmen was the only Pirate to lose his match. He fell in straight sets 3-6, 2-6. Coauette outlasted his opponent in two, close 7-5 sets. After his incredible start to the season, Isaac Thomforde moved up to No. 3 singles, where he won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Reggie Winjum, now at No. 4 singles, so won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

the no 1 doubles duo of Christensen and Owens won their first set 6-4 but dropped their second set 1-6. In the super tiebreak er, the two came out on top 10-7. Nathan Kelly and Kaleb Armstrong battled in the first set, winning 7-5, and got the win with a 6-3 second set. Tim Brule and Sam Widseth won in straight sets 6-0, 6-3. In an exhibition doubles match, Jack Everett and Austin Crawford won 6-3, 7-5.

In their match up against Willmar, Crookston lost just seven games in the entire match, blanking the Cardinals.

Both Garmen and Coauette cruised to 6-0, 6-0 victories, while Thomforde and Winjum dropped just one game each, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Owens and Christensen took care of business, winning 6-1, 6-2. Kelly and Armstrong didn’t drop a single game, as they won their fourth match as a duo this season. Brule and Widseth closed the Pirates out with a straight set win 6-0, 6-2.

With the two wins, the Pirates improve to 4-5. Because their match with Hibbing got canceled, the boys’ tennis team doesn’t play again until Wednesday, April 27 in Bemidji. The start time got moved two hours back to 12 pm
