MAJESTIC PRINCESS, ALASKA (KUSI) – Cruise ships are sailing the high seas again as vaccination rates continue to rise.

Doug Shupe, Corporate Communications and Programs Manager at the Auto Club of Southern California, accompanied Logan Byrnes of KUSI live from the Majestic Princess on Good Evening San Diego off the icy waters of Alaska to discuss common rules for cruise lines.

Shupe described that in order to board his cruise, he had to provide proof of full vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of leaving Seattle.

Masks must be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status, but not on deck, on balconies, or in personal rooms, Shupe explained.

More hygiene measures will be put in place, Shupe said, adding that the huge variety of food is still available but you will be served by someone instead of serving yourself.

To enforce social distancing, cruise lines only use around 40-70% of capacity, Shupe said.
