Daniil Medvedev goes to Marseille for the first final
Daniil Medvedev took another big step towards his first title in Marseille after beating Australian Matthew Ebden in the semi-finals.
The Russian star, who will climb to number 2 in the world rankings on Monday, took a highly competitive first set 6-4 and quickly took control of the second set. He led 3-0 before the Australian qualifiers were eliminated due to injury.
The 25-year-old will now reach his first final in Marseille, where he will face one of two French players in Ugo Humbert or Pierre-Hugues Herbert on Sunday.
Daniil Medvedev said of his opponent’s resignation: “I’m really sorry for Matthew. He played incredible tennis this week. “
“Today we went from head to toe and he was the first to have the chance to break. Maybe he even played better than me. Hopefully he will recover quickly because he also has doubles to play. “
The Russian is aiming for his first individual title of the season after leading his country to the ATP Cup in February.
