LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Abortions remain banned here in Lubbock and will continue to be banned across Texas once a fetal heartbeat is detected.

But Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas is still offering abortions to women in other facilities across Texas before a fetal heartbeat can be detected.

They also found a loophole in Texas law that allows them to help women who seek an abortion beyond those six weeks by providing funding that will allow them to leave the state.

The planned parenting clinic in Lubbock is not to offer abortions due to our sanctuary city ordinance, but they offer help from their ‘navigation team’.

PP spokesman Keizer Autumn said the “navigation team” is essentially acting as a travel agent, offering airline tickets, hotel rooms, fuel cards and options to reduce the cost of abortion services.

“So our patient navigators help you find out what is the next step? What abortion funds can they access or access to help them with this? What services can we do to make it a little easier for them to travel and leave the state, ”said Keizer.

This loophole is possible because SB8 only prohibits abortions and supports abortions that are performed in the state of Texas.

“If you are helping your best friend who has to come to Kansas to have this abortion because he exceeded that rating, the SBA says you are not doing anything illegal here at home and you are not at risk,” Keizer said.

According to SB8, pregnant women seeking an abortion cannot be punished in any way.

According to Planned Parenthood, since SB8 went into effect on Sept. 1, researchers have found a 50 percent reduction in abortions compared to that time last year. Researchers predict an 85 percent reduction.
