The Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, praised the country’s responsible recovery efforts during a recent visit

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, March 01, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – The Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, publicly praised the Dominican Republic for the travel and safety protocols the country has put in place to keep visitors safe the US to ensure global pandemic.

The Secretary-General, vacationing in the Dominican Republic, took time to visit the government building, greet President Luis Abinader and Minister of Tourism David Collado, and learn about the country’s policies which are a safe and responsible tourism recovery strategy support. In a series of tweets after the meetings, Pololikashvili noted that the country is proof that one can travel responsibly.

“Today, Tourism Minister David Collado gave me first-hand information on how the Dominican Republic protects tourism for the country’s recreation. An example of this is that tourism can be safe!” said Pololikashvili.

“The fact that the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization has chosen the Dominican Republic as the destination for his first family vacation is a sign of confidence, a sign that our rigorous work and compliance with security protocols are building trust in the international community,” said David Collado, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic. “With its hygiene protocol, equipment, security and infrastructure, the country is ready to welcome tourists.”

Minister Pololikashvili praised the commitment of the Dominican government, acknowledging that it is not easy to reconcile the economy and health, and stressed that the country was a role model to follow. “We saw with our own eyes that the Dominican Republic is a safe country,” said Pololikashvili, describing the country as a tourist paradise.

As of September 15, 2020, the Dominican Republic has implemented the Responsible Tourism Restoration Plan, which includes the provision of a free tourist health insurance plan that covers all types of emergencies (including possible coronavirus infection) and random tests on passengers arriving on Airport carries out.
