MANILA, Philippines – About 10,000 tourism workers in Bohol are slated to be vaccinated against the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that is causing COVID-19, the Department of Tourism (DOT) announced on Monday.

DOT secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said 10,000 doses of the Sputnik-V vaccine could hit town as early as this week after vaccine czar Carlito Galvez approved her agency’s application for additional vaccines.

“With these vaccines, we can be sure that frontliners of accredited hotels and resorts, transport companies, tour sites and restaurant establishments have additional protection against COVID-19,” said Puyat in an online briefing.

Bohol Governor Arthur Yap said tourism workers from DOT-accredited institutions that have received the Certificate of Authority to Operate and Bohol’s Seal of Excellence in Tourism called the Ultimate Bohol Experience (UBE) will be a priority in the vaccination program.

“The promise that sooner or later more vaccines will arrive is great news indeed, so that we can not only protect our residents, but also reassure visitors that we are taking steps to keep them safe too,” said Yap.

Previously, the national government Frontline tourism staff in A1 hotel quarantine facilities along with medical front liners. The government also started vaccinating people under the A4 category, which also includes tourism workers.
