The hotel business in northeast Florida continues to recover from the pandemic faster than other travel markets in the state.

Duval County’s August room occupancy was 66.6%, up 24% from August 2020. The nationwide occupancy rate was 58.4% in August.

The average room rate was $ 98.30, the lowest since 2016. Room revenue was nearly $ 38 million, up from 2017, 2019, and 2020 and slightly lower than August 2018, reports Visit Jacksonville.

Jacksonville’s occupancy rate is 72.9% year-to-date, similar to August 2018 and August 2019, according to STR, a company that collects national hospitality industry data.

Room revenue grew $ 110 million from January to August 2020.

The average occupancy rate in Florida during these eight months was 65.7%. Duval County ranks second only to the Keys, which have about half the number of rooms for sale compared to Jacksonville.
