Zach Ertz trade rumors: Bills, Chargers among six most logical landing spots for Eagles tight end – CBS Sports
Buffalo Bills. If we’re taking bets, they might be the front-runners. They reportedly tried to sign Rob Gronkowski as a sidekick and/or upgrade of Dawson Knox. They’re in search of another weapon for QB Josh Allen with John Brown out the door. And Ertz would likely welcome the chance to play for such an up-and-coming contender and quarterback. They also just sent backup TE Lee Smith to the Falcons, clearing the way for an addition.

Around the time of the Wentz deal last month, there was some chatter about Ertz potentially being included in the package, but nothing (obviously) came of it. Ertz has no shortage of allies in the building, including coach Frank Reich and Wentz, who is one of Ertz’s closest friends. Those are two powerful voices to have championing for you. There are some interesting dynamics at play with this one, though. As part of the Wentz deal, the Eagles received a conditional 2022 second-round pick from Indy that can turn into a first-rounder based largely on the percentage of snaps Wentz plays. Is it in Philadelphia’s interest to give the Colts another weapon when draft positioning is on the line and is tied to Indianapolis’ performance this season?
5 potential landing spots for Zach Ertz in a trade – NBCSP
Los Angeles Chargers. After Henry left to sign with the Patriots, the Chargers are now a team in need of a tight end. And if they weren’t willing to dish out the $12 million APY for Henry, Ertz would be a cheaper option, at least for this year. He’d also become a safety blanket of sorts for second-year quarterback Justin Herbert. The Chargers have two 3rd-round picks this year, so perhaps they’d be more willing to give one up. They have 3-77, 3-97 and 4-118 in this year’s draft. Maybe the Eagles could get one of those 3rd-round picks by offering up one of their later-round picks to sweeten the deal. The Eagles have two 6th-rounders and one 7th.
NFL Trade Rumors: Eagles can’t be discounted as strong suitor for Deshaun Watson – BGN
The Eagles’ current grim outlook would improve quickly with Watson in the fold. With one big move, Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman could win back a lot of fans that seemingly feel more apathetic than ever about the team. While it can be fun to dream, I’d advise against holding your breath on this one. I just don’t think it’s very realistic. There’s part of me that wonders if the Eagles wanted La Canfora (who is said to be tight with Roseman) to float this rumor out there to generate some buzz in an otherwise dead Eagles news cycle. But, hey, I wouldn’t mind being wrong about this one.
Fantasy Fallout: Silva on 2021 Trades and Free Agency – Establish The Run
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts — The Eagles traded away Carson Wentz before owner Jeff Lurie issued a reported mandate that Philadelphia give Hurts the 2021 season for a full-year evaluation. That would entail resisting drafting a quarterback at No. 6 overall and/or trading down to stockpile future picks as part of an organizational rebuild. Hurts’ fantasy ceiling is immense as an aggressive dual threat who stands to benefit from a healthy supporting cast after flashing colossal upside surrounded by Philadelphia’s B-squad down last year’s stretch. I’ve bet on Hurts’ longshot MVP odds at 100 to 1, 80 to 1, and 66 to 1 thus far.

Regardless of whether there was a coaching change or not, Arcega-Whiteside would be on the roster bubble this summer. The second-round pick status gives him a longer leash than somebody drafted on Day 3, but by the third year, a draft investment becomes a sunk cost. He’ll only be on the team this year if he earns his way onto the roster. (By the way, Nelson Agholor played his way onto the roster in his third season.) I don’t see it with Arcega-Whiteside, though. I’d lean toward him being elsewhere in 2021. As for Fulgham, the coaching staff had an odd fascination with trying to re-integrate Alshon Jeffery into the offense. It might not have been a cause-and-effect with Jeffery returning to the lineup and Fulgham regressing, but those events coincided and it took playing time away from Fulgham. I still think he can play.

Roseman said the Eagles “won’t put a cap on what we’re going to do at that position” and that the team will consider every option as they address depth and competition at the game’s most vital position. Roseman also did not rule out using the No. 6 overall draft pick on April 29 at quarterback, saying the Eagles will perform due diligence at every spot on the roster. Roseman said the goal is to build the roster back to a championship level by retaining some key veterans – center Jason Kelce and defensive end Brandon Graham, for example – and infusing the roster with young players (the Eagles have 19 draft picks in 2021 and 2022, as it stands now).
2021 NFL free agency: Patriots reportedly release defensive tackle Beau Allen, wide receiver Marqise Lee – Pats Pulpit
Allen originally arrived in New England last spring, when he signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the club. Originally expected to help replace free agency departee Danny Shelton at the nose tackle position, the big-bodied defender was a non-factor after already missing the entire full-team portion of training camp for undisclosed reasons. He made the team’s initial 53-man roster but was moved to injured reserve shortly thereafter. Allen returned to the practice field in late October, opening a 21-day window in which he could either be activated or remain on IR for the remainder of the season, but he never made it back. His first year with the team ended with zero in-game appearances, and one big question mark next to his name heading into 2021. Now, those questions have been answered. Allen will not return for a second season, which in turn creates net salary cap savings of $1.08 million. The writing for that move was on the wall not just due to his year-long absence but also because the Patriots significantly bolstered their interior defensive line in free agency: they signed Davon Godchaux and Henry Anderson, and also retained Deatrich Wise Jr. and Carl Davis.
Futures: BYU QB Zach Wilson – Football Outsiders
Ranking BYU quarterback Zach Wilson above Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the off chance of being right about finding a better talent than the “generational” prospect is a silly exercise. Generational prospects such as Lawrence, who was a five-star recruit and won a national championship as a freshman, earn their reputation by looking like NFL-ready stars for years on the biggest stage. Wilson, on the other hand, was a relative unknown before the COVID-altered season allowed BYU to effectively play down a level of competition. It is hard not to feel like Wilson is benefitting from Patrick Mahomes’ status as the best quarterback in the league. Purely in terms of play style, Wilson’s creative and free-flowing nature is the closest to Mahomes. Few if any analysts would disagree with that. Even the way Wilson carries and releases the ball as a passer looks a bit like Mahomes, especially on the move. Everyone wants the quarterback that looks like the best in the league and Wilson fits the mold. The basis for any comparison to Mahomes—which, to be clear, is too lofty for any prospect—has to revolve around physical tools, vertical passing prowess, and the ability to create off-script. Wilson is not as talented or as savvy as Mahomes (duh), but it is easy to understand why parallels get drawn between the two based on that criteria.

Breaking News: Colts re-signing running back Marlon Mack to a 1-year, $2 million deal – Stampede Blue
After tearing his Achilles during Week 1 of last season, Mack returns to Indianapolis on a very team-friendly, fully guaranteed 1-year, $2 million deal. General manager Chris Ballard spoke highly of Mack after the 2020 season, stating, “Marlon Mack deserves a contract extension unequivocally. He deserves a good contract.” “I think he’s a really special player and I could see just see a backfield of Marlon, Jonathan (Taylor), Nyheim (Hines), and (Jordan) Wilkins,” Ballard added. The Colts are unquestionably happy to have Mack back. He’s been a major contributor for the team over the last four seasons, and he’s a highly respected leader both on and off the field, too.
2021 NFL Free agency: Giants to bring Kenny Golladay in for a visit – Big Blue View
The Giants, who are in desperate need of a true number one wide receiver, have long been suspected of having an interest in Golladay. It isn’t a big surprise that the Giants want to meet with Golladay before making a contract offer. The 27-year-old receiver is coming off a season in which he played just five games, missing the first two games of the season and then the final nine after straining a hip flexor in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts. This will give the Giants’ medical team a chance to examine Golladay and for the team to talk directly to the player. While both sides may want to get a deal done, it may ultimately hinge on how the Giants perceive Golladay’s injury risk and whether the team is able to structure a contract the player is satisfied with.

Another Carolina Panther is coming to Washington to join Ron Rivera, but this time it’s a signing that many in the fan base have been eagerly awaiting. Less than 8 hours after the new league year officially began, but a couple of days after the start of the “legal tampering” period, it has been reported that the Washington Football Team and WR Curtis Samuel have agreed to a contract that many have been predicting for months.

There is no denying that Fitzpatrick’s ceiling is a sight to behold in the NFL, but his career has shown that the other shoe ultimately drops at one point or another. Washington are the reigning NFC East Champions and partly so thanks to the play of another veteran, Alex Smith. While the quarterback market has already been buzzing this offseason, Washington’s draft position doesn’t exactly make it easy for them to find a stable future at the game’s most important position. Sure, Fitzpatrick can compete with Taylor Heinicke for playing time in Washington, but ultimately the franchise is just treading water there. In hindsight it worked out great for the Cowboys that Washington won the division and is stuck in quarterback purgatory, the worst place for an NFL franchise to be, especially one with a roster otherwise ready to compete.
