Residents of the small recreational community of Eastgate, southwest of Princeton in southern interior British Columbia, were forced to flee their homes on Saturday night due to wildfire.

The Okanagan-Similkameen Regional District issued an evacuation order for more than 100 properties on Saturday night due to the forest fire at Garrison Lake in Electoral Area H.

RCMP and search and rescue expedited notifications to evacuate people.

This includes properties along Highway 3, Garret Road, Bonnevier Road, Thistle Road, Rivers End, Towers Road, Airstrip Road, Lupine Road, and Garrett Circle.

All evacuees are asked to register online with the Emergency Support Services (ESS) Evacuee Registration & Assistance (ERA) tool, even if they do not require transfers such as accommodation or other services: ess.gov.bc.ca

Noisy BC Wildfire Service, the nearby forest fire at Garrison Lake, first discovered on July 23, has grown to 8,175 acres.

Firefighters report significant growth in the past 24 hours, and air resources and ground personnel are involved in the firefight.

“Heavy smoke in the area has led to visibility problems for aircraft, and aggressive fire behavior occurs on site due to strong winds,” said an update on Saturday.

“BC Parks was informed of this fire as it moved easily into Manning Park.”

The BC Department of Transportation has issued a travel warning along Highway 3 between Manning Park and Princeton due to limited visibility from forest fire smoke.

The road is open to traffic, however, drivers should drive carefully between Manning Park Resort and Frontage Road for 40 miles. the note stated.
