CAIRO – October 31, 2021: Egyptian hotels and resorts will start charging the minimum nightly rate set by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiques from Monday.

The minimum price per night in 5-star and 4-star hotels is $ 40 and $ 28, respectively. These prices include VAT and form the basis of assessment.

The ministry had given the hotels six months to prepare for the implementation of the decision to improve the service offering to guests.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Khaled al-Anany, announced on a phone in July that the number of tourists flocking to Egypt monthly for the past four months was 500,000, except in June when the figure is 550,000.

The minister added that 60 percent of tourism to Egypt comes from Europe; However, it is now slowing down due to travel restrictions due to COVID-19. He announced that he was in Germany two weeks ago to negotiate vacation spots, but the German side insisted that no exceptions could be made.

On the other hand, Anany noted that the number of tourists from other countries – which were not large exporters of tourists to Egypt – has increased. This is due to the low prices in Egypt and the free award of tourist visas as well as the offer of attractive flight packages.

The minister pointed out that the number of Arab tourists, especially Saudis visiting Egypt, has increased. He added that more Russians were also visiting Cairo.

Speaking of domestic tourism, her main destinations are Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. Of course, many go to the north coast, but that doesn’t count as there are almost no hotels there, as originally only residential complexes were planned. The few hotels there are very expensive because they are five or seven stars and because customers mainly turn up in the summer.
