Prime Minister Scott Morrison says national travel advisories for the United States have changed following the riot on Capitol Hill in Washington.

He said the scenes from the US were “terribly worrying”.

“You are very worrying,” he said. “As a result, we’re making some changes to our travel advice.”

Australians are advised not to travel to unrest areas in the US because of the “continuing potential for violence”.

Those who are in the United States are urged to take care of the officials and listen to them.

Mr Morrison said he hoped a “peaceful change of power” would take place.
