FLORENCE, SC – Florence Post 1 won the championship game of the Post 1 Invitational at American Legion Field 11-1 against Sumter on Sunday.

In a game where a key to success is taking what your opponent gives, Florence did just that while the P-15s struggled with fielding and pitching. As a result, Post 1 scored two in the second, six in the fifth, and three in the six to end the game by the 10-run rule.

After Florences Owen Taylor doubled up to start the end of the second, he scored while Sumter made a mistake at Keyshawn McDonald’s Bunt. Post 1’s other second inning run was also scored due to a mistake.

In the bottom of the fifth, the P-15s went four thugs and hit three others. Just as the second inning of Post 1 was triggered by a double, the same thing happened in the fifth when Parker Winfield doubled to center with an out. After a run, Ashani McFarland was singled out in Caleb Oakley to make it 4-0.

After another base-loaded walk and a hit batsman, Florence’s lead grew to 6-0. One wild pitch, and then another batsman, and Post 1 led 8-0.

Sumter landed in the top of sixth place with Wylie Coker’s single. But Post 1 tucked it away in the bottom half by making a 9-1 on one mistake. Then George Derrick Floyd and Hunter Herlong’s RBI singles ended the game.
